Peru Public Holidays 2027: Long Weekends to Visit Cusco and Machu Picchu

Official Tour Guide · Cusco
5 min read

In 2027 Peru has seven long weekends created by national public holidays, plus a four-day Holy Week (Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 March). These are Peru’s national holidays, the dates when the most Peruvians travel to Cusco. For anyone living in Peru, they are the best dates to see Cusco and Machu Picchu without taking vacation days: three days are enough for Machu Picchu in one day and a tour in Cusco, and with four you can add the Sacred Valley. Here is the 2027 holiday calendar, which tour fits each one and what to book in advance.

Data as of 22 October 2026. The holidays are the ones set by law; the Government has not yet published the 2027 non-working days (días no laborables), which could extend some holidays. The 2027 high-season dates and Machu Picchu fares have not been published either: we will update this article when they are released.

Other 2027 holidays fall midweek or on a Saturday: 1 May (Saturday), Saint Peter and Saint Paul (San Pedro y San Pablo, Tuesday 29 June), Fiestas Patrias (Independence Day, Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 July), the Immaculate Conception and the Battle of Ayacucho (Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 December) and Christmas (Saturday 25 December). With one or two vacation days, Fiestas Patrias and the first week of December become four- or five-day trips. If the Government declares non-working days, we will note them here.

Inti Raymi takes place on Thursday 24 June 2027, in Cusco. It is not a national holiday, but it falls between the 7 June holiday and the 29 June one.

What to do with 3 days: Cusco and Machu Picchu

What to do with 4 days: Holy Week

  • Day 1: arrival in Cusco and acclimatization; City Tour if you feel well.
  • Days 2 and 3: Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu in 2 days: Pisac, lunch in Urubamba and Ollantaytambo, train and a night in Machu Picchu Pueblo, and a guided visit to Machu Picchu the next day. If you would rather visit only Machu Picchu at a more relaxed pace, there is the 2-day train tour.
  • Day 4: return, or a half-day tour if your flight is late.

If you have five days (for example, at Fiestas Patrias with two vacation days), add the full-day Classic Sacred Valley tour and do Machu Picchu as a Full Day.

Why you should book in advance

Holidays are the dates when the most Peruvians travel to Cusco. In 2025, according to the Ministry of Culture, the months with the most Peruvian visitors at Machu Picchu were August (40,879), January (39,827) and October (39,411). In addition, Machu Picchu tickets have daily quotas and are bought with your name, date and entry time, with no changes allowed afterward (see our guide to visiting Machu Picchu).

  • 2027 tickets: the Ministry of Culture has not opened sales yet. For 2026, sales opened on 17 November 2025.
  • High season: in 2026 it included Holy Week (2 to 5 April) and 19 June to 2 November, that is, almost all the mid-year holidays. In high season there are more places and more routes, but also more demand.
  • Fare for Peruvians: in 2026, S/ 64 for general admission and S/ 112 with a mountain. The 2027 fare has not been published yet.

With a tour, you do not have to arrange the train, bus, ticket and guide separately: check availability for your date on each tour page, or compare all the options in Machu Picchu tours from Cusco.

Tips for traveling over a holiday

  • Bring your original DNI (Peruvian national ID card): the Machu Picchu ticket is issued and checked with it, and the Boleto Turístico is also issued in your name (see Cusco Tourist Ticket).
  • If you go at Holy Week or New Year, you will be traveling in the rainy season: bring a waterproof jacket and check the weather month by month in best time to visit Machu Picchu.
  • From June to August, nights in Cusco are the coldest of the year: bring warm clothes.
